Six-Strong Danish Rock Campaign in Canada and the US

Kira & The Kindred Spirits.

Quite a handful of Danish bands will go to Canada and the US to play concerts in the beginning of March. First stop is the Canadian Music Week in Toronto, where on 2nd March Figurines, Kira & The Kindred Spirits, and The Blue Van make up the line-up for the Danish night at the club The Drake Underground. The Canadian interest can be traced directly back to The SPOT Festival in 2005. The booker of the Canadian Festival Phil Klygo was among the invited international music business people at the festival. After SPOT 11, Klygo and MXD/ROSA have worked out the details for the Danish Night at the Canadian festival.

Having travelled all the way to Canada, the bands will then go on a mini-tour to Ottawa (6th March) at the club Zaphod Beeblebrox and Montreal (7th March) in The Main Hall, and two of the bands – Kira & The Kindred Spirits and Figurines – will furthermore move on to Seattle, Washington, to play a joint concert at the club The Crocodile.

 SPOT 09 program

The Blue Van.

The Seattle night has come about in collaboration with the American rock journalist Jennifer Maerz from the magazine “The Stranger”. Maerz, too, was among the international guests at the latest edition of the SPOT Festival and became aware of Danish music on that occasion

Furthermore, as usual, there is Danish representation at the South By SouthWest Festival in Austin, Texas. Just like last year, MXD is in charge of arranging and coordinating two Nordic Nights 16th and 17th March at the club The Drink.

Sarah Hepburn.

Veto, Sarah Hepburn, and The Royal Highness are the three Danish acts in the program, which also includes Ane Brun (NOR), Animal Alpha (NOR), Astrid Swan (FIN), Disco Ensemble (FIN), Loney, Dear (SWE), Quit Your Dayjob (SWE), Real Ones (NOR), Sign  (ISL), and The Latebirds (FIN).

By the way, Figurines will get plenty of opportunities to make their name stick. Before the Danish night at the Canadian Music Week, they are to play at the Festival’s Indie Awards show on 1st March, where they have been nominated in the category “Favorite New International Artist”, and after the Danish campaign, they are going to go on touring on their own – first stop being Los Angeles, and more gigs will probably follow now that the band’s second album is to be released in North America on 7th March.
